Latest Market Update - December 2025
Energy markets have continued to ease over the past month, supported by positive fundamentals across supply, demand and storage levels.
Temperatures are forecast to remain warmer than seasonal norms this week, with increased wind and rainfall expected. This is providing strong support for renewable power generation and strengthening the overall power stack.
EU gas storage levels currently sit at around 72% full. Withdrawals are occurring at a slower pace than this time last year, which is contributing to a more bearish outlook in energy futures markets. LNG deliveries into Europe also remain robust and are up approximately 30% year‑on‑year.
Although electricity prices are relatively low for this point in the winter season, customers are unlikely to see significant savings on contract renewals. This is due to rising non‑commodity costs, particularly the upcoming increases in transmission charges and the introduction of the Nuclear RAB levy.
